Now Entering the Crunchy Zone

So Jen offered to go shopping with me at Kimberton Whole Foods, but today on a whim I thought I'd drop by there and pick up a few things on my way home from the gym. First of all, it was not where I thought it was, so I had to explore a bit, but I have a good sense of direction so I found it. I had never actually been into "downtown" Kimberton, but it is a CUTE place. Different...lots of healthy, earthy businesses. Like a wellness center, massage therapy, handmade jewelry...that kinda thing. But going with Nathan, without a list, and without Jen for the first time was a BAD idea.

I was totally overwhelmed by all the crazy brands and packaging and stuff I didn't recognize. It's so much harder to make choices when you don't even know the brands. And WHOA is it expensive. So I will NOT being buying my meat or produce there. I'll have to try Trader Joes next. I got a kick out of all the crunchy people shopping there. First, they all seemed to know each other! And they were all dressed like hippy nature types.

Anyway, I got some Red Hot and Blue chips because I've had them before and they are TASTY. But not especially low cal or anything. And some soft cheese to spread on crackers, and some cranberry juice. It took me awhile to find the kind of tea Jen recommended for iced tea, but I asked someone and they helped. I made some this afternoon and while I have not had any yet, it smells delicious! I may have steeped it too long...

I also bought that cinnamin raisen Ezekial bread. So my question is, the stuff comes frozen because it doesn't have the preservatives in it. Must you store it frozen if you don't use it up quickly? Then how do you thaw it nicely for sandwiches? This may be a silly question but I've never put bread in my freezer.

Indulgence Day

I would say that yesterday I indulged with moderation. Especially compared to my old eating habits! I am happy to report that I feel significantly slimmer this week and the scale agrees so far. I know I'm not supposed to weigh myself every morning, but sometimes I can't help it, and I would say in the past couple weeks I've solidly lost somewhere between 3-5 lbs. It fluctuates so much, and I know that amount of weight can come back in a heartbeat, but so far I'm winning the battle.

So yesterday.

Breakfast:
bowl of Special K red berry
16 oz coffee

Workout: (rehab)
10 minutes biking
5 minutes walking
30 minutes leg exercises
1 bottle water

Lunch:
Chick-fil-a southwest grilled chicken salad (YUM! new fast food find)
no dressing!
diet soda

Dinner:
2 small slices Papa John's pepperoni pizza
1 bottle water

Desert at Bible study:
1 small slice Boston creme cake (yummy but I wouldn't have eaten it if not in a group)
1 bottle water

Learning a LOT

Thank you very much to Jen and Lori (and Lori's RD) for great advice. Your persistance with all the healthy organic stuff* is working on me. But I still haven't been shopping to stock up on good food yet, so here's what I ate today:

Breakfast:
Cinnamin oatmeal with water
Diet cranberry juice (no corn syrup, just Splenda)

Lunch:
grilled chicken sandwich on whole wheat roll with lettuce, tomato, and a little honey musturd
small salad with low fat french dressing
diet coke (I know I know, I'm addicted!)

Mid-afternoon snack:
small handful of mixed nuts
8 oz coffee

Dinner:
small lean pork chop, marinated and grilled (YUM)
lightly buttered sugar snap peas (possibly my fave veggie)
potatoes au gratin (not the best choice, but it was a very small serving)
water water water

Workout:
10 minutes running
10 minutes powerwalking uphill
20 minutes biking

Nightime snack (I was pretty hungry!)
4 tbsp salsa
1 oz tortilla chips

Tuesday's Child Has Far to Go

Ain't that the truth.

Well I'm sure y'all saw Jen's wonderful healthful meal alternatives. I talked about it further with her last night and it was pretty funny how grossed out she was by my eating soup from a can. I work, I try to keep a 2 year old safe and amused, and I run around around town buying things to keep my household clean and fed. And then there is all the time I put in at the gym, which I admit is a choice and takes up a lot of time I could do other useful stuff, but right now it is a priority for me. So I am not so good at taking time to prepare meals from scratch. But we'll see. I may have to try the iced tea.

So yesterday's food. I think I forgot to eat breakfast again. I fully intended to have a bowl of oatmeal, but I got busy with work and next thing I knew it was time for rehab and then lunch.

Breakfast:
16 oz Wawa coffee

Workout (rehab for knees)
10 minutes biking
5 minutes walking
30 minutes lower body weightlifting and exercises

Lunch:
Boston Market chicken breast (no skin)
buttered corn
new potatoes
1 cornbread
diet coke

Dinner:
1 apple
2 tbsp peanut butter
1 handful triscuits

Workout
1 hour yoga class!

Snack
100 calorie pack of Cheese-its
8 oz Gatorade

Monday Monday

Thank you guys for all your awesome comments and support!!! You girls rock :)

I know I should drink more water. I drink a lot while I'm working out and after, but not the rest of the time.

Yeah I realize the Panera Sierra Turkey is high points, but half of one isn't as bad and a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do sometimes. It's pretty nutritious actually. According to the new WW system I got a bazillion extra points for all the working out I do. :) I was looking for the healthier turkey panini I got last time I was at Panera but they didn't appear to have it this time. And the Wendy's spicy chicken is not as bad as many breaded chicken sandwiches, especially without the mayo. It's only 9 points. I know the fries were a sin. I was weak. I CAN NOT live on salad alone. Especially with this spinach ban. UGH.

Now today:
I was go go go this morning and all I had was a GIGANTIC (20 oz) Wawa coffee. Hazelnut, yum. I don't take cream or sugar so that's no calories.

Lunch: (late!)
1 serving (half container) of Campbell's Chunky Firehouse Chili...yum
1 handful of garlic triscuits
Crystal light lemonade

Dinner: (KOP Food Court)
Turkey club sandwich on white with mayo and american cheese (BAD I know, but could be worse)
1 handful of potato chips
22oz diet coke

Workout:
15-20 minutes weightlifting
10 minutes running
15 minutes powerwalking uphill
12 minutes on the stairclimber

According to My Calorie Counter, I haven't actually eaten ENOUGH today! But I'm gonna watch MNF halftime, then the rest of Studio 60, then BED :)

Sunday September 24

Day 1 of my workout/food/weight loss blog. I'm just tired of whining about my weight loss goals on my regular blog and I'm sure my readers there are sick of hearing about it. So come here to read and PLEASE feel free to give me advice.

Breakfast: 3 oz Oceanspray Diet Cranberry Splash
medium sized bowl of Special K red berry (I don't really drink the milk in it)
coffee

Lunch: 1/2 Panera Sierra Turkey sandwich
Small classic cafe salad with about 1 Tbsp of dressing
diet coke

Workout: 30 minutes elliptical, high intensity
15 minutes recumbant bike, lower intensity (but still sweating)
1 bottle of water

Snack: 1 cup strawberries with 2 Tbsp cool whip

Dinner: Wendy's spicey chicken sandwich, no mayo
small french fries
diet coke

Workout: 20 minutes of various ab crunches, boat pose, headstand, and a couple chaturangas
1/2 bottle of water

So why is the scale UP a couple pounds after that? Was that really a lot of calories??
